STARTING PITCHERS

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/29/19

Blake Snell vs. Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Tropicana Field
FanDuel = $11,800
DraftKings = $11,300

As far as mismatches go, this is one of the biggest ones on the slate. Snell has been even more dominant than he was last season, recording a 36.5 percent strikeout rate. Even though his ERA is higher, his xFIP is actually lower at 2.58. The Blue Jays strike out a ton and have scored the fourth-fewest runs (209) in the league, leaving Snell with an extremely favorable opportunity to shine once again.

Pablo Lopez vs. San Francisco Giants
Stadium – Marlins Park
FanDuel = $7,600
DraftKings = $6,600

I don’t feel great about this, but I’m not sure I can pass up a cheap pitcher against the Giants, especially considering Lopez’s price on DraftKings. Trevor Richards completely shut them down Tuesday and the Giants now check into this contest having scored the third-fewest runs (197). Lopez has been about as inconsistent as they come, but his 3.91 xFIP and improved strikeout rate are encouraging. If you’re looking to save some money in tournament play, Lopez might be your guy.

CATCHER

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/29/19

J.T. Realmuto vs. Genesis Cabrera, St. Louis Cardinals
Stadium – Citizens Bank Park
FanDuel = $3,400
DraftKings = $4,600

The Phillies should be one of the most popular stacks of the night against Cabrera, who will be making his big league debut. His numbers are Triple-A don’t really justify the promotion, especially his 6.35 xFIP. Already one of the better offensive forces at the catcher’s spot, Realmuto checks in as arguably the top option at the position based on this matchup.

Others to consider: Chris Iannetta

FIRST BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/29/19

Rhys Hoskins vs. Genesis Cabrera, St. Louis Cardinals
Stadium – Citizens Bank Park
FanDuel = $4,400
DraftKings = $4,900

One of Cabrera’s problems in the minors has been his inability to limit home runs. He allowed 11 of them in just 39.2 innings. That could spell a disaster for him against Hoskins, who has a career .274 ISO. He’s also destroying left-handed pitchers this year, posting a .415 wOBA against them. Even though he won’t come cheap, his upside is off the charts.

Others to consider: Freddie Freeman and Ryan O’Hearn

SECOND BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/29/19

Joe Panik vs. Pablo Lopez, Miami Marlins
Stadium – Marlins Park
FanDuel = $2,800
DraftKings = $3,700

While I like Lopez against the Giants, the depth at second base isn’t great for this slate, especially on FanDuel. Panik has been one of the few hitters who has actually performed well of late, hitting 21-for-66 (.318) with a .418 OBP over his last 17 games. The only downside is that he only has one home run and six doubles during that stretch.

Others to consider: Ildemaro Vargas and Cesar Hernandez

THIRD BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/29/19

Eduardo Escobar vs. Jeff Hoffman, Colorado Rockies
Stadium – Coors Field
FanDuel = $4,600
DraftKings = $5,700

The Diamondbacks laid an egg by scoring just two runs Tuesday, but it wasn’t Escobar’s fault since he hit a homer and drove in both runs. They’ll try to take advantage of Coors Field and another plush matchup Wednesday against Hoffman, who has a career 5.05 xFIP. He’ll eat up a big chunk of your budget, but Escobar is a hitter to build your lineup around.

Others to consider: Nolan Arenado and Hunter Dozier

SHORTSTOP

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/29/19

Jonathan Villar vs. Ryan Carpenter, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Oriole Park at Camden Yards
FanDuel = $3,300
DraftKings = $4,900

The Orioles could be a sneaky stack to target. Carpenter has been awful in his brief big league career, posting a 1.65 WHIP and allowing 13 home runs across 36.1 innings. Villar is one of the top Orioles to target, especially since he is 9-for-20 with two home runs and three doubles during his current five-game hitting streak.

Others to consider: Jean Segura and Adalberto Mondesi

OUTFIELD

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/29/19

Ketel Marte vs. Jeff Hoffman, Colorado Rockies
Stadium – Coors Field
FanDuel = $4,400
DraftKings = $5,500

Marte also did his part against the Rockies on Tuesday, hitting 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Amazingly, he now has eight multi-hit performances over his last 12 games. He’s flashed plenty of power during that stretch, as well, with three home runs and four doubles. He’s right up there with Escobar for the top options to target in a Diamondbacks stack.

Scott Kingery vs. Genesis Cabrera, St. Louis Cardinals
Stadium – Citizens Bank Park
FanDuel = $2,800
DraftKings = $4,100

Kingery finds himself in line for more playing time moving forward with Odubel Herrera on administrative leave due to a domestic violence incident. While Kingery’s .339 average immediately jumps off the page, he has been aided by a .439 BABIP. He’s in line for significant regression, but he’s a viable cheaper target with Cabrera on the mound.

Keon Broxton vs. Ryan Carpenter, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Oriole Park at Camden Yards
FanDuel = $2,300
DraftKings = $3,900

Working our way even further down the price scale brings us to Broxton, who has stepped into an everyday role with the Orioles. He’s made the most of his opportunity, hitting 6-for-18 (.333) with a home run since joining the team. With how poorly Carpenter has pitched, Broxton, with his career 108 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers, could provide value.
