MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 6/4/2019
With a light schedule to accommodate the draft Monday, baseball picks back up with 15 games Tuesday. STARTING PITCHERS
Blake Snell vs. Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Comerica Park
FanDuel = $11,000
DraftKings = $11,000
It seemed unlikely that Snell would repeat his 1.89 ERA last year, and he hasn’t so far with a 3.06 ERA. However, his xFIP is actually down at 2.69 and his strikeout rate has increased by over three percentage points to 34.9 percent. While he was hit hard in two outings, he’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his other nine starts. The Tigers have one of the worst lineups in the league, which should make Snell a popular option despite his lofty price tag.
Eduardo Rodriguez vs. Kansas City Royals
Stadium – Kauffman Stadium
FanDuel = $8,100
DraftKings = $8,000
The Royals find themselves in the bottom third of the league in runs scored and are now missing one of their best hitters in Hunter Dozier (side). They are already tied for the third-lowest wRC+ (73) against left-handed pitchers in the league, so losing his potent right-handed bat is a huge blow. Rodriguez’s 5.04 ERA looks ugly, but he has a 3.90 xFIP and a 25 percent strikeout rate, leaving him as a more cost-effective option to consider.
CATCHER
Jorge Alfaro vs. Chase Anderson, Milwaukee Brewers
Stadium – Miller Park
FanDuel = $2,900
DraftKings = $4,300
The Marlins have dug themselves a big hole, but their lineup has finally started to produce some runs. Some of that has to do with the call up of outfielder Harold Ramirez, although Alfaro’ hot bat should not go unnoticed. One of the key players acquired in the deal that sent J.T. Realmuto to the Phillies, Alfaro is 18-for-48 (.375) with four home runs and four doubles across his last 14 games.
Others to consider: Gary Sanchez
FIRST BASE
Eric Thames vs. Pablo Lopez, Miami Marlins
Stadium – Miller Park
FanDuel = $2,900
DraftKings = $5,000
After a disappointing 2018 campaign, there were plenty of question marks surrounding Thames entering this season. However, with Jesus Aguilar struggling, Thames has once again been thrust into a prominent role. He’s mostly come through for the Brewers, especially of late by hitting 10-for-34 (.294) with two home runs across his last 10 games. Lopez doesn’t have an overpowering arsenal with his 22.7 percent strikeout rate, which makes Thames an intriguing option on FanDuel. I’d probably avoid him at his lofty price on DraftKings, though.
Others to consider: Luke Voit and Trey Mancini
SECOND BASE
Rougned Odor vs. Dylan Bundy, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Globe Life Park in Arlington
FanDuel = $2,600
DraftKings = $3,500
Odor comes into this game with a .166 batting average, although some of that can be attributed to his .208 BABIP. His 33.7 percent strikeout rate isn’t helping his cause, either. The good news is that he still has plenty of power, will be playing in his hitter-friendly home park and is facing a pitcher in Bundy who has allowed 1.7 HR/9 for his career. The risk might be worth the reward here.
Others to consider: DJ LeMahieu and Hanser Alberto
THIRD BASE
Eugenio Suarez vs. Genesis Cabrera, St. Louis Cardinals
Stadium – Busch Stadium
FanDuel = $3,600
DraftKings = $4,500
Stacking the Reds against Cabrera is something to strongly consider. Cabrera had a 6.32 xFIP at Triple-A this season before being recalled and was hit hard for five runs (three earned) across 3.2 innings in his first start against the Phillies. Suarez has a career .379 wOBA against left-handed pitchers, leaving him as the top player to target in a Reds stack.
Others to consider: Renato Nunez and Yandy Diaz
SHORTSTOP
Corey Seager vs. Taylor Clarke, Arizona Diamondbacks
Stadium – Chase Field
FanDuel = $3,500
DraftKings = $4,700
Is Seager back? After injuries derailed his 2018 campaign, Seager got off to a slow start this year. However, he’s turned things around lately by hitting 19-for-66 (.288) with five home runs and five doubles across his last 18 games. With his career 138 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers, he has an excellent opportunity to continue his recent run of success against the inexperienced Clarke, who had a 6.16 xFIP at Triple-A this season before being called up.
Others to consider: Gleyber Torres and Orlando Arcia
OUTFIELD
Juan Soto vs. Reynaldo Lopez, Chicago White Sox
Stadium – Nationals Park
FanDuel = $4,200
DraftKings = $5,500
Soto costs a pretty penny on both sites, but he’s hard to pass up. He couldn’t be much hotter with him entering this contest 26-for-61 (.426) with four home runs and seven doubles across his last 16 games. This is also a great matchup against Lopez, who continues to struggle with a 5.85 xFIP and a 1.64 WHIP.
Josh Reddick vs. Andrew Moore, Seattle Mariners
Stadium – T-Mobile Park
FanDuel = $3,000
DraftKings = $3,900
While it hasn’t been officially announced at the time I’m writing this, Moore is expected to start for the Mariners. He’s struggled to even be an impact pitcher in the minor leagues and made his last start at Double-A, so this is a great matchup to exploit with an Astros stack. Reddick has emerged as an important part of their lineup due to a myriad of injuries and is having one of the best seasons of his career with his 118 wRC+.
Keon Broxton vs. Drew Smyly, Texas Rangers
Stadium – Globe Life Park in Arlington
FanDuel = $2,400
DraftKings = $3,700
While a lot of people will likely be stacking Rangers, the Orioles could also provide value in their matchup against Smyly. He’s pitched poorly in his return from injury, recording a 6.07 xFIP and allowing 10 home runs over 38.2 innings. Broxton has power and has already hit two home runs in eight games with the Orioles, making him someone to consider in tournament play.
Others to consider: Shin-Soo Choo and Nomar Mazara
