MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/1/2019

There’s not much to speak of in the majors Monday with only five games making up the main evening slate in DFS. Viable starting pitching options will be hard to come by, so look for hitters to reign supreme. Here are some players who stand out as viable targets to consider. STARTING PITCHERS

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/1/19

Mike Minor vs. Los Angeles Angels
Stadium – Globe Life Park in Arlington
FanDuel = $10,800
DraftKings = $10,500

Minor has been as consistent as they come, allowing three runs or fewer in 12 straight starts. Two big reasons for his improved ERA this season is his strikeout rate increasing to 24.4 percent and the fact that he’s only allowed 12 home runs across 112.2 innings. He’s held the Angels to one run while recording 12 strikeouts across 15 innings in his first two starts against them, potentially making him worth his hefty price tag.

Logan Allen vs. San Francisco Giants
Stadium – Petco Park
FanDuel = $9,300
DraftKings = $9,200

Really the only other starter to get excited about is Allen, who has an awesome matchup against the putrid Giants’ lineup. Allen has shown plenty of promise in his first two starts with the Padres, allowing two runs while recording 10 strikeouts across 13 innings. He’s likely in line for some regression sooner rather than later based on his 4.85 FIP at Triple-A, but this matchup might be too good to pass up.

CATCHER

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/1/19

Pedro Severino vs. Ryne Stanek, Tampa Bay Rays
Stadium – Tropicana Field
FanDuel = $2,700
DraftKings = $3,700

Stanek will open for the Rays with left-hander Ryan Yarbrough expected to pitch the bulk of the innings behind him. That’s great news for Severino since he has a 158 wRC+ against southpaws this season. While not a huge bargain on FanDuel, his price on DraftKings is especially appealing.

Others to consider: Yasmani Grandal

FIRST BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/1/19

Eric Thames vs. Tyler Mahle, Cincinnati Reds
Stadium – Great American Ball Park
FanDuel = $2,800
DraftKings = $4,900

Mahle has allowed a career .399 wOBA against left-handed hitters, so loading up with the lefties on the Brewers could be a sound strategy. Thames is once again providing plenty of power with his .267 ISO and he’s hot right now after hitting 9-for-22 with two home runs and three doubles over his last nine games. I wouldn’t avoid him despite his hefty price tag on DraftKings, although he’s someone to seek out as a cheaper option on FanDuel.

Others to consider: Eric Hosmer and Joey Votto

SECOND BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/1/19

Mike Moustakas vs. Tyler Mahle, Cincinnati Reds
Stadium – Great American Ball Park
FanDuel = $3,700
DraftKings = $5,000

Moustakas’ first full season with the Brewers has been a smashing success. His 134 wRC+ would be the highest mark of his career and he’s already launched 23 home runs. With how poorly Mahle has pitched against lefties, Moustakas has a tremendously high ceiling.

Others to consider: Brandon Lowe and Scooter Gennett

THIRD BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/1/19

Yandy Diaz vs. Tom Eshelman, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Tropicana Field
FanDuel = $3,600
DraftKings = $4,300

The Orioles don’t have much to speak of in terms of quality starting pitching options and will be forced to give Eshelman his first career start in the majors. He struggled for the Phillies at Triple-A last year, posting a 4.80 FIP and a 1.67 WHIP to go along with a 16.2 percent strikeout rate. After a stint on the IL, Diaz has started to heat up with five hits, four of which were doubles, in his last two games.

Others to consider: Manny Machado and Greg Garcia

SHORTSTOP

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/1/19

Fernando Tatis Jr. vs. Jeff Samardzija, San Francisco Giants
Stadium – Petco Park
FanDuel = $4,300
DraftKings = $5,700

Tatis has been everything the Padres could have hoped for, and then some. Despite his 29.3 percent strikeout rate, he has a .420 wOBA to go along with 11 home runs and 12 steals over just 48 games. He’s also scored a whopping 40 runs. Samardzija is having another disappointing season with a 4.52 ERA and a 4.73 FIP, making Tatis arguably the top target at shortstop for the evening.

Others to consider: Elvis Andrus and Kevin Newman

OUTFIELD

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/1/19

Chrisitan Yelich vs. Tyler Mahle, Cincinnati Reds
Stadium – Great American Ball Park
FanDuel = $4,800
DraftKings = $5,900

Yelich has cooled off a bit, hitting 4-for-29 (.138) with no home runs over his last eight games. Still, he’s a monster with his 178 wRC+ and 18 stolen bases. He’s been even better with a 196 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers, so look for him to give Mahle plenty of problems.

Kevin Kiermaier vs. Tom Eshelman, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Tropicana Field
FanDuel = $2,800
DraftKings = $3,900

Kiermaier is known more for his glove than his bat. That’s been the case again this season with him posting an underwhelming .303 wOBA. However, if you’re rolling with a Rays stack, he’s one of the more cost-effective options to consider. Even if you decide to load up on another team, he could be a valuable one-off who helps your budget.

Ben Gamel vs. Tyler Mahle, Cincinnati Reds
Stadium – Great American Ball Park
FanDuel = $2,300
DraftKings = $4,000

With Mahle’s struggles against left-handed hitters, there is a good chance that Gamel is in the lineup for this game. He has six hits in his last 15 at-bats, which included a home run and a double. His spot lower in the batting order isn’t exactly ideal, but he could still have a significant amount of runners on base ahead of him based on all of the Brewers’ potent left-handed hitters.
