STARTING PITCHERS
Charlie Morton vs. Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Tropicana Field
FanDuel = $10,800
DraftKings = $10,600
It’s no secret that the Rays like to use an opener, which has been an effective strategy for them. However, some of that is out of necessity because they just don’t have many quality starting pitchers. Among the ones they do have is Morton, who has been as good as it gets with a 2.91 FIP and a 1.05 WHIP. He has a 29.9 percent strikeout rate and has allowed only seven home runs across 100 innings, which is especially impressive given the current hitting environment. With a great matchup against the Orioles, expect him to come through with a valuable stat line.
Tanner Roark vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Stadium – Great American Ball Park
FanDuel = $7,700
DraftKings = $8,500
If you want to go off the board in tournament play, Roark probably won’t be included in that many entries. The Brewers have a potent lineup, but it should be noted that Roark held them to one run while recording seven strikeouts across six innings when these two teams met about two weeks ago. His 3.36 ERA this season is backed by a 3.50 FIP and he’s increased his strikeout rate to 23.6 percent, so there’s a reasonable chance here that he comes through with another fine performance.
CATCHER
Buster Posey vs. Matt Strahm, San Diego Padres
Stadium – Petco Park
FanDuel = $2,400
DraftKings = $3,200
Once one of the more potent offensive catchers in baseball, Posey is a shell of his former self. Playing in a weak Giants lineup isn’t helping matters and is part of the reason why he has just 21 runs scored and 22 RBI through 61 games. The good news is that he has at least two hits in each of his last three starts and has increased his ISO from .098 last year to .132 this season. Strahm has allowed 21 runs across 18.2 innings in his last four starts, but he still might be a popular option based on how bad the Giants have been, so Posey could be a good cheap contrarian option in tournament play.
Others to consider: Wilson Ramos
FIRST BASE
Ji-Man Choi vs. Asher Wojciechowski, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Tropicana Field
FanDuel = $2,800
DraftKings = $3,600
With the Orioles deciding to push back Dylan Bundy’s start, Wojciechowski will be called up from Triple-A. The 30-year-old right-hander has a 3.61 ERA across 15 starts in the minors, but he has a 5.80 FIP, so don’t get too excited. Choi has a career .348 wOBA versus righties, making him an appealing option that likely won’t be highly rostered.
Others to consider: Eric Hosmer and Daniel Murphy
SECOND BASE
Max Muncy vs. Taylor Clarke, Arizona Diamondbacks
Stadium – Dodger Stadium
FanDuel = $3,700
DraftKings = $5,100
Clarke has been awful for the Diamondbacks, recording a 6.04 FIP and a 1.51 WHIP through his first nine appearances. He’s also allowed a .407 wOBA against left-handed hitters, making Muncy one of the top players to target at the keystone despite his lofty price tag. He’s followed up his breakout 2018 campaign with an excellent 142 wRC+.
Others to consider: Jose Altuve and Ryan McMahon
THIRD BASE
Yandy Diaz vs. Asher Wojciechowski, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Tropicana Field
FanDuel = $3,600
DraftKings = $4,400
Diaz makes this list for the second straight day. He came through with a fine performance Monday, going 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base. He’s only struck out two times across 24 plate appearances since being activated from the IL and has six hits over his last three contests. If you’re rolling with a Rays stack, make sure he’s included.
Others to consider: Rafael Devers and Eugenio Suarez
SHORTSTOP
Didi Gregorius vs. Zack Wheeler, New York Mets
Stadium – Citi Field
FanDuel = $3,300
DraftKings = $3,600
With all of the powerful right-handed hitters that the Yankees have, getting Gregorius’ lefty bat back in the lineup is huge. He’s recorded four straight multi-hit games, slugging two home runs and a double during that stretch. Wheeler isn’t the easiest of foes, but the Yankees did touch him up for nine runs (five earned) when these two teams met earlier this season. Gregorius could provide value, especially at his reduced price on DraftKings.
Others to consider: Fernando Tatis Jr. and Willy Adames
OUTFIELD
Charlie Blackmon vs. Jose Urquidy, Houston Astros
Stadium – Coors Field
FanDuel = $4,500
DraftKings = $5,900
It’s no secret that Blackmon loves hitting at Coor Field. This season has been no different with him recording a 246 wRC+ at home compared to a 68 wRC+ on the road. Throw in a young pitcher making his big league debut and this is a prime spot to deploy Blackmon in DFS.
Kevin Kiermaier vs. Asher Wojciechowski, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Tropicana Field
FanDuel = $2,700
DraftKings = $3,900
Let’s go to the well again with Kiermaier, who rewarded our faith in him Monday by going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. The Astors and Rockies are going to be popular stacks at Coors Field, but players on both teams will be costly. Even if you don’t want to stack the Rays, Kiermaier is a one-off to target at this budget-friendly price.
Austin Slater vs. Matt Strahm, San Diego Padres
Stadium – Petco Park
FanDuel = $2,200
DraftKings = $3,200
Slater was playing well at Triple-A this season with a .415 wOBA and a 141 wRC+, earning him a call up to the big club. It also made sense for the Giants to recall him for their series with the lefty-laden Padres’ pitching staff. He quickly made his presence felt Monday, hitting a home run and a triple. Since he won’t cost much, he could be worth the risk in tournament play.
Others to consider: George Springer and Avisail Garcia
