MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/22/2019
There’s no shortage of options to pick from Monday with 11 games across the majors. Plenty of series will have playoff implications, including the Red Sox taking on the Rays and the Astros hosting the A’s. Let’s try to add to the excitement by bringing home some cash in DFS. Don’t forget to sign up for our Newsletter and try our MLB Lineup Optimizer to help build a winning entry on FanDuel and DraftKings.
STARTING PITCHERS
Robbie Ray vs. Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Chase Field
FanDuel = $9,600
DraftKings = $11,400
The top three pitchers that stand out here are Ray, Gerrit Cole and Mike Clevinger. Ray is the cheapest of the three and could be in line for the best performance based on his matchup. The Orioles have scored the fourth-fewest runs (418) in baseball while posting a minuscule 77 wRC+ on the road. Ray can provide plenty of strikeouts with his 30.7 percent strikeout rate, so his upside is off the charts.
Alec Mills vs. San Francisco Giants
Stadium – Oracle Park
FanDuel = $7,000
DraftKings = $6,900
For those looking to take a chance in tournament play, this matchup works in Mills’ favor. The Giants play in pitcher-friendly Oracle Park, which is a contributing factor to their home 73 wRC+. That’s the second-lowest mark in the majors. It also doesn’t help that their lineup is generally thin on talent. Mills came away with a quality start in his only other appearance for the Cubs this season. Don’t count on him for many strikeouts, but another quality start isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
CATCHER
Roberto Perez vs. Ryan Borucki, Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Rogers Centre
FanDuel = $2,600
DraftKings = $3,600
Perez has hit a bit of a rough patch, hitting 4-for-31 (.129) with a 34.3 percent strikeout rate across his last nine games. However, he does have a .375 wOBA against left-handed pitchers this year. This will mark Borucki’s first start in the majors this season due to an elbow injury, leaving this as a potential opportunity to take advantage of Perez at a reduced price tag.
Others to consider: Travis d’Arnaud
FIRST BASE
Garrett Cooper vs. Ivan Nova, Chicago White Sox
Stadium – Guaranteed Rate Field
FanDuel = $2,800
DraftKings = $5,000
Nova has been a disaster for the White Sox with his 5.45 FIP and 1.57 WHIP. He’s also had issues keeping hitters inside the ballpark, allowing 1.8 HR/9. Cooper is 21-for-68 (.309) with four home runs and four doubles over his last 18 games, making him one of the more dangerous hitters on the Marlins. Although his price on DraftKings is too high, he could be a bargain on FanDuel.
Others to consider: Christian Walker and Jose Abreu
SECOND BASE
Eduardo Escobar vs. Aaron Brooks, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Chase Field
FanDuel = $3,900
DraftKings = $5,300
It’s usually not a bad idea to stack whoever is playing against the Orioles. That should make the Diamondbacks a popular option, especially with Brooks on the mound. During his time with both the A’s and Orioles this season, he’s posted a 5.59 FIP and has allowed 1.9 HR/9. Escobar carries plenty of upside with his .256 ISO and .364 wOBA. Of note, he is only eligible at second base on FanDuel since he is listed at third base on DraftKings.
Others to consider: Gleyber Torres and Starlin Castro
THIRD BASE
Brian Anderson vs. Ivan Nova, Chicago White Sox
Stadium – Guaranteed Rate Field
FanDuel = $2,500
DraftKings = $4,000
Continuing to attack this matchup against Nova brings us to Anderson. Although his batting average has declined, his power numbers have taken a significant step forward. In 156 games last year, he finished with 11 home runs and a .127 ISO. Through 96 contests this season, he’s gone deep 13 times and has a .181 ISO. With the savings that he provides, he is at least someone to consider in tournament play.
Others to consider: DJ LeMahieu and Jose Ramirez
SHORTSTOP
Francisco Lindor vs. Ryan Borucki, Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Rogers Centre
FanDuel = $3,900
DraftKings = $4,500
For those going with an Indians stack, Lindor is an anchor to build around. He provides a great combination of speed and power, posting 16 home runs and 14 steals despite missing the start of the season due to injury. While he does have better numbers against righties, Borucki is not an overpowering southpaw after posting a 16.1 percent strikeout rate last year.
Others to consider: Javier Baez and Nick Ahmed
OUTFIELD
Ketel Marte vs. Aaron Brooks, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Chase Field
FanDuel = $4,000
DraftKings = $5,200
This is officially Marte’s breakout season. He’s become arguably the toughest out on the team, combining a .258 ISO with a mere 13.7 percent strikeout rate. His hard-hit rate has jumped up to 42.9 percent, which is nearly seven percentage points higher than last year. With his 143 wRC+ against lefties, look for him to have a productive game.
Oscar Mercado vs. Ryan Borucki, Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Rogers Centre
FanDuel = $3,600
DraftKings = $4,900
Factoring in his .354 wOBA versus left-handed pitchers, Mercado is yet another player on the Indians to consider. He’s also swinging a hot bat right now with three home runs across his last seven games. Just as impressive is the fact that he’s only struck out two times over his last 34 plate appearances.
Jordan Luplow vs. Ryan Borucki, Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Rogers Centre
FanDuel = $2,800
DraftKings = $4,200
Last, but certainly not least, in terms of an Indians stack is Luplow. He’s absolutely mashed lefties to the tune of a 184 wRC+ and has found himself hitting cleanup lately whenever a southpaw is on the mound. That puts him in an ideal spot between Carlos Santana and Jose Ramirez, two of the most dangerous hitters on the team.
Others to consider: Juan Soto and Jarrod Dyson
