STARTING PITCHERS
Trevor Bauer vs. Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Rogers Centre
FanDuel = $10,900
DraftKings = $11,400
Bauer hasn’t been at his best this season with a 3.67 ERA and a 4.30 FIP, but he has the ability to dominate a lineup whenever he takes the mound. He still has a 27.8 percent strikeout rate and has recorded at least 10 strikeouts in three of his last five starts. The last time he faced the Blue Jays, he recorded eight strikeouts over seven shutout innings. The Blue Jays have a strikeout prone lineup, leaving Bauer as a great option despite his hefty price tag.
Merrill Kelly vs. Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Chase Field
FanDuel = $7,600
DraftKings = $7,300
The Orioles don’t have a great lineup and won’t have the DH available to them playing in Arizona, so they will be even more limited for this matchup with Kelly. Despite not having much strikeout upside, Kelly has allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight of his last nine starts. If you’re looking to roll with a cheap pitcher in tournament play, he could be a risk well worth taking.
CATCHER
Jorge Alfaro vs. Dylan Covey, Chicago White Sox
Stadium – Guaranteed Rate Field
FanDuel = $2,400
DraftKings = $3,800
With limited options, the White Sox will once again be forced to roll with Covey to make a start. He’s having another bad season with his 5.67 FIP and 1.58 WHIP, so the Marlins have some appeal despite their lack of offensive firepower. Alfaro could provide some important savings for your budget while also generating upside since he is 17-for-47 (.362) with a home run and four doubles over his last 14 games.
Others to consider: Alex Avila
FIRST BASE
Christian Walker vs. Dylan Bundy, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Chase Field
FanDuel = $3,500
DraftKings = $4,600
The Diamondbacks should be the chalk stack once again with Bundy making his return from the IL. He just can’t keep hitters inside the ballpark, allowing a whopping 2.1 HR/9. That should play right into Walker’s wheelhouse with his .236 ISO.
Others to consider: Josh Bell and Garrett Cooper
SECOND BASE
Eduardo Escobar vs. Dylan Bundy, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Chase Field
FanDuel = $4,000
DraftKings = $5,300
Escobar made yesterday’s article and came through by hitting 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs scored, one walk, one RBI and one stolen base. I certainly wasn’t going out on a limb with him based on the favorable matchup, but we’ll take the production none the less. With Bundy on the mound, I’m going to the well with him once again. Of note, he is only eligible at second base on FanDuel since he is listed at third base on DraftKings.
Others to consider: Ozzie Albies and Jason Kipnis
THIRD BASE
Colin Moran vs. Dakota Hudson, St. Louis Cardinals
Stadium – PNC Park
FanDuel = $2,600
DraftKings = $3,900
If we are going to load up on hitters on the Diamondbacks, we need to find some cost savings at a few spots. That brings me to Moran, who is 16-for-40 (.400) with three doubles across his last 13 games. Hudson has allowed way too many baserunners, resulting in a 1.51 WHIP. Left-handed hitters also have a .380 wOBA against him, making Moran someone to possibly take a chance on in tournament play.
Others to consider: Jose Ramirez and Manny Machado
SHORTSTOP
Fernando Tatis Js. vs. Jason Vargas, New York Mets
Stadium – Citi Field
FanDuel = $4,200
DraftKings = $5,400
Tatis has been everything the Padres could have hoped for this year, and then some. He’s shown his excellent combination of speed and power with 16 home runs and 14 steals. Despite his 29.5 percent strikeout rate, he also has a .404 wOBA. Vargas has allowed eight home runs over his last six starts and Tatis has a .457 wOBA versus lefties, so don’t be afraid to pay up to get him into your lineup.
Others to consider: Francisco Lindor and Nick Ahmed
OUTFIELD
Ketel Marte vs. Dylan Bundy, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Chase Field
FanDuel = $4,200
DraftKings = $5,500
While he didn’t have as productive of a game as Escobar did, Marte came through with a couple of hits, a walk and a run scored to help the Diamondbacks come away with the victory Monday. If deploying a Diamondbacks stack, it’s hard to leave him out of your lineup considering he has five straight multi-hit games.
Tyler Naquin vs. Aaron Sanchez, Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Rogers Centre
FanDuel = $3,100
DraftKings = $4,200
The surging Indians will get another chance to score in bunches against Sanchez, who has struggled with a 6.26 ERA and 5.51 FIP. Naquin has been one of the hottest hitters on the team, going 19-for-48 (.396) with three home runs and seven doubles across his last 14 games. Whether deploying an Indians stack or just looking for a one-off, Naquin is very appealing based on his reasonable price on both sites.
Manuel Margot vs. Jason Vargas, New York Mets
Stadium – Citi Field
FanDuel = $3,100
DraftKings = $4,100
Looking at Margot’s overall numbers doesn’t make him look very appealing, but this could be a great spot to add him to your lineup. He’s been much more effective of late, hitting 12-for-35 (.343) with two home runs, four doubles and two steals over his last 10 games. He also has a 186 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers, so this could be a matchup for him to exploit.
Others to consider: Ronald Acuna Jr. and Adam Jones
