MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 8/27/2019

While Monday’s slate was short on quality pitchers, Tuesday is loaded with top-tier options. We also have a few lineups that will carry tremendous upsides, making for some difficult decisions when compiling your entry. Let’s try to make that task a little easier by highlighting some of the players that stand out. STARTING PITCHERS

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 8/27/19

Luis Castillo vs. Miami Marlins
Stadium – Marlins Park
FanDuel = $11,000
DraftKings = $10,000

This is quite the mismatch. Castillo has had an excellent bounceback season for the Reds, recording a 3.73 FIP and a 1.12 WHIP. He has cut down on the amount of home runs that he has allowed while increasing his strikeout rate dramatically, which is usually a recipe for success. The Marlins have one of the worst lineups in baseball and Marlins Park is very pitcher-friendly, so expect Castillo to be one of the chalk pitchers of the night.

Mike Fiers vs. Kansas City Royals
Stadium – Kauffman Stadium
FanDuel = $8,000
DraftKings = $8,500

The A’s might not have any big names in their starting rotation, but they still find a way to win games. Fiers has been one of their most reliable options, allowing two runs or fewer in 11 of his last 13 starts. His low strikeout rate limits his upside, but he’s cheap enough on both sites to warrant considering against the Royals, who are ranked towards the bottom of baseball in most major offensive categories.

CATCHER

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 8/27/19

Francisco Cervelli vs. TBD, Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Rogers Centre
FanDuel = $2,000
DraftKings = $2,900

If we are going to take advantage of some of the expensive pitching options, we’ll need to take a chance or two on a hitter. If Cervelli is in the lineup for the Braves, he’s someone to target. He’s made an immediate impact since joining the Braves, going 5-for-9 with three doubles and a triple in his first two games with the team. While injuries have put a damper on his career, he’s shown he can hit when healthy. The Blue Jays have yet to name a starter as of early Tuesday morning, but they don’t have many quality options on their staff.

Others to consider: Christian Vazquez

FIRST BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 8/27/19

Eric Thames vs. Miles Mikolas, St. Louis Cardinals
Stadium – Miller Park
FanDuel = $2,900
DraftKings = $4,700

Thames likes hitting a Miller Park, recording a .386 wOBA there compared to a .335 wOBA on the road. That could spell bad news for Mikolas, who has a 5.22 FIP on the road this season. He’s also slumping right now having allowed 16 runs (15 earned) across his last three starts.

Others to consider: Carlos Santana and Mitch Moreland

SECOND BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 8/27/19

Ryan McMahon vs. Rick Porcello, Boston Red Sox
Stadium – Coors Field
FanDuel = $3,600
DraftKings = $4,700

The Rockies figure to be one of the most popular stacks of the night for this matchup at home. Porcello has remained healthy for the Red Sox, but he hasn’t pitched well, leaving him with a 4.94 FIP and a 1.41 WHIP. McMahon has produced a .390 wOBA at Coors Field and has six home runs over his last 15 games, overall, leaving him with plenty of upside here.

Others to consider: Gleyber Torres and Ozzie Albies

THIRD BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 8/27/19

Rafael Devers vs. Rico Garcia, Colorado Rockies
Stadium – Coors Field
FanDuel = $4,500
DraftKings = $5,800

German Marquez (arm) was supposed to make this start for the Rockies, but he was placed on the IL and could actually be out for the rest of the season. With few quality options to choose from, Garcia will receive his first start in the majors. It could end up being a disaster considering he had a 6.54 FIP and a 1.75 WHIP at Triple-A. While pricey, Devers’ ceiling is as high as any player on this slate.

Others to consider: Anthony Rendon and Matt Chapman

SHORTSTOP

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 8/27/19

Mike Freeman vs. Spencer Turnbull, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Comerica Park
FanDuel = $2,100
DraftKings = $3,700

With Jose Ramirez (hand) on the IL, the Indians will likely turn to the duo of Freeman and Yu Chang to man third base. With the righty Turnbull on the mound, look to for Freeman to be in the lineup. He has a respectable .346 wOBA this season, making him a cheap option to target in tournament play to help you load up elsewhere.

Others to consider: Trevor Story and Trea Turner

OUTFIELD

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 8/27/19

Juan Soto vs. Aaron Brooks, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Nationals Park
FanDuel = $4,200
DraftKings = $5,400

There’s no question that stacking the Rockies or Red Sox could pay tremendous dividends. However, don’t forget about the Nationals. They have a prime matchup against Brooks, who enters with a 5.87 FIP and a 1.44 WHIP. Soto has been at his best with the Nationals making a push for the playoffs, hitting 21-for-62 (.339) with eight home runs and four doubles over his last 15 games.

Bryan Reynolds vs. Drew Smyly, Philadelphia Phillies
Stadium – Citizens Bank Park
FanDuel = $3,400
DraftKings = $4,800

While Smyly gave up just two runs in his last start against the Red Sox, he only lasted 3.2 innings and allowed eight baserunners. He has a 6.99 ERA that is backed by a 6.92 FIP, making this a matchup to exploit. Reynolds has been one of the offensive bright spots for the Pirates with his 142 wRC+, so look for him to continue to thrive.

Trent Grisham vs. Miles Mikolas, St. Louis Cardinals
Stadium – Miller Park
FanDuel = $2,600
DraftKings = $3,300

After posting some monster numbers at Triple-A, Grisham has largely struggled with a 96 wRC+ in the majors. His .244 BABIP isn’t helping his cause, so his numbers could be on the rise as his luck improves. With how poorly Mikolas has performed on the road this season, rolling with Grisham at this reduced price could provide key savings for your budget while also generating some valuable production.
