MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 8/6/2019
We have the customary packed Tuesday with 15 games making up the evening slate in DFS. With so many teams in action, there are a few different strategies available to be deployed. Let’s break down the matchups and discuss some of the more appealing players to consider. STARTING PITCHERS
Zack Wheeler vs. Miami Marlins
Stadium – Citi Field
FanDuel = $10,700
DraftKings = $10,600
At one point looking like a team that might be sellers heading into the trade deadline, the Mets actually turned out to be buyers. They are now 11-1 in their last 12 games and have made themselves a serious contender in the Wild Card race. They’ll look to beat up on the Marlins again, who have scored the second-fewest runs in baseball. The first time Wheeler faced them this season, he allowed two runs and recorded 11 strikeouts over seven innings. While expensive, he’s an excellent option for this rematch.
Anibal Sanchez vs. San Francisco Giants
Stadium – Oracle Park
FanDuel = $7,700
DraftKings =8,000
The Giants had a prime opportunity to score against the struggling Erick Fedde on Monday, but he shut them out over six innings. The Giants do have a few dangerous hitters, but they’ve struggled as a team so much that their .700 OPS is the third-lowest mark in baseball. That makes Sanchez someone to at least consider in tournament play. He’s quietly having another productive season and has recorded a 2.94 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP across his last 11 starts.
CATCHER
Austin Romine vs. Asher Wojciechowski, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Oriole Park at Camden Yards
FanDuel = $2,500
DraftKings = $3,800
With their rash of injuries, the Yankees’ depth chart has been tested throughout the season. While some players have come out of nowhere to provide production, it’s not a big surprise that Romine is thriving while filling in for Gary Sanchez (groin) since he is one of the better backup catchers in the league. After going deep Monday, he is now 14-for-39 (.359) with three home runs and two doubles over his last 13 games.
Others to consider: Mitch Garver
FIRST BASE
Carlos Santana vs. Ariel Jurado, Texas Rangers
Stadium – Progressive Field
FanDuel = $3,900
DraftKings = $5,000
The Indians are likely going to be a popular team to stack with Jurado on the mound. He’s been a sore spot for the Rangers this season and has really been bad lately, recording a 6.70 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP over his last nine appearances. This could be a prime opportunity to deploy Santana, who has a .388 wOBA against right-handed pitchers.
Others to consider: Daniel Vogelbach and Mike Ford
SECOND BASE
Keston Hiura vs. Steven Brault, Pittsburgh Pirates
Stadium – PNC Park
FanDuel = $3,200
DraftKings = $5,200
Hiura has run into a bit of a slump, hitting 3-for-28 (.107) with no home runs over his last eight games. This is a favorable opportunity for him to right the ship against Brault, who has a 4.53 FIP and a bloated 1.57 WHIP. He’s also allowed a .362 wOBA against right-handed hitters. Hiura’s price on DraftKings is too high, but he could provide value on FanDuel.
Others to consider: Jason Kipnis and Luis Urias
THIRD BASE
Luis Arraez vs. Mike Foltynewicz, Atlanta Braves
Stadium – Target Field
FanDuel = $2,700
DraftKings = $4,000
Arraez has played himself into a regular starting role by hitting 17-for-52 (.327) over his last 13 games. The downside with him is that he only had one double and no home runs during that stretch. His lack of power will limit his upside, but hitting in the potent Twins’ lineup also allowed him to score 13 runs over those 13 contests. Foltynewicz was demoted to Triple-A due to his 6.15 FIP, but with the Braves needing a starter, he’ll be recalled and tested right away against one of the best lineups in baseball.
Others to consider: Anthony Rendon and Rafael Devers
SHORTSTOP
Francisco Lindor vs. Ariel Jurado, Texas Rangers
Stadium – Progressive Field
FanDuel = $4,200
DraftKings = $5,500
With the Indians in a fight to make the playoffs, Lindor has picked the most opportune time to go on a hot streak. Entering action Tuesday, he is 40-for-119 (.336) with eight home runs and eight doubles over his last 27 games. Although he missed the start of the season due to injury, he already has 20 home runs and 17 stolen bases, making him extremely valuable for those who play in season-long leagues. Considering how much Jurado has struggled, Lindor could be in line for another impressive day at the plate.
Others to consider: Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jose Iglesias
OUTFIELD
Max Kepler vs. Mike Foltynewicz, Atlanta Braves
Stadium – Target Field
FanDuel = $4,300
DraftKings = $5,400
One of the main reasons for the Twins offensive explosion this season has been the addition of veteran Nelson Cruz. Another has been the emergence of Kepler, who already has 31 home runs despite never hitting more than 20 in a season previously in his career. Add in his .384 wOBA against right-handed pitchers and he could be a tough out for Foltynewicz throughout this contest.
Mike Tauchman vs. Asher Wojciechowski, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Oriole Park at Camden Yards
FanDuel = $2,900
DraftKings = $4,500
Tauchman has to be one of the most surprising success stories for the Yankees this season. Brought over at the start of the season from the Rockies, he wasn’t expected to be much more than depth at Triple-A or a fifth outfielder considering the Yankees already had Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks, Giancarlo Stanton and Brett Gardner on the roster with prized prospect Clint Frazier waiting in the wings. However, injuries have forced him into a regular role and he’s thrived by hitting 26-for-59 (.441) with five home runs, six doubles, 17 RBI and 18 runs scored over his last 18 games. With a righty on the mound, expect him to be manning one of the outfield spots once again.
Aristides Aquino vs. Jose Suarez, Los Angeles Angels
Stadium – Great American Ball Park
FanDuel = $2,300
DraftKings = $3,700
The Reds cashed in a favorable matchup in the first game of this series for seven runs and will have another opportunity to score in bunches against Suarez, who has allowed 11 home runs over 41.1 innings. After putting up some impressive numbers in the minors, Aquino has already made an impact during his brief stint in the majors by hitting 4-for-12 with a home run and four RBI. At this cheap price, he is an excellent target in tournament play.
Others to consider: Jorge Soler and Brett Gardner
