NFL Daily Fantasy Football Recommendations for Week 3 – Wide Receivers
As we work our way through our Week 3 positional breakdowns, it’s time to dive into wide receivers. We have a nice array of options, including some cheaper players who could provide valuable stat lines. CASH TARGETS
Keenan Allen, LAC vs. HOU
FanDuel = $7,800
DraftKings = $7,000
Allen is off to a spectacular start, totaling 16 receptions, 221 yards and a touchdown over the first two weeks. He received at least 10 targets in both contests and has to be considered as one of the favorites to lead the league in that category if he stays healthy. With the Chargers continuing to rely on him heavily due to tight end Hunter Henry (knee) being out, his floor makes him one of the top cash game options to consider.
Amari Cooper, DAL vs. MIA
FanDuel = $7,700
DraftKings = $7,500
After exploding for 106 yards in Week 1, Cooper came away with only four catches on five targets for 44 yards against the Redskins. He did salvage his line with a touchdown, giving him two already for the season. He’s been much more productive since being traded to the Cowboys last year, emerging as Dak Prescott’s top receiving option. Expect even more of the burden to be placed on his shoulders this week with Michael Gallup (knee) sidelined.
Chris Godwin, TB vs. NYG
FanDuel = $7,600
DraftKings = $6,900
Is Godwin overtaking Mike Evans as the top wide receiver option for the Bucs? Through the first two games, Godwin has 11 receptions, 174 yards and two touchdowns while Evans has six catches for 89 yards and no scores. It should be noted that Godwin has received 15 targets compared to 13 for Evans, so both players figure to be heavily involved moving forward. The Giants really only have one competent cornerback in Janoris Jenkins, and with him likely to spend much of the game defending Evans, Godwin has a chance to feast on the rest of their underwhelming secondary.
GPP TARGETS
Kenny Golladay, DET at PHI
FanDuel = $7,000
DraftKings = $6,600
Golladay could probably be included in the cash section here. He’s the unquestioned top receiver for the Lions, catching 12 of 19 targets for 159 yards and two touchdowns through the first two weeks. The Eagles secondary is a mess and was torched by Julio Jones last week for 106 yards and two scores. At his reasonable price on both sites, Golladay is someone to target whether you are playing in a cash contest or a tournament.
John Brown, BUF vs. CIN
FanDuel = $5,900
DraftKings = $5,500
The Bills finally will play their first game at home and have a chance to improve their record to 3-0. Brown has been one of the key additions to their offense, providing quarterback Josh Allen with a dangerous deep threat. They seem to already be on the same page with Brown catching 14 of 18 targets for 195 yards and a touchdown. The Bengals have already allowed five passing touchdowns in their first two games and were blown out by the 49ers last week, leaving Brown in a favorable position to thrive.
Emmanuel Sanders, DEN at GB
FanDuel = $5,700
DraftKings = $4,800
Sanders has been one of the more pleasant stories in the early going. He’s made a tremendous comeback after tearing his Achilles last year, catching 16 of 20 targets for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He had a whopping 98 targets across only 12 games last season, so he can sustain this type of target share if he stays healthy. With the Broncos potentially needing to throw the ball a lot to keep up with the Packers’ offense, Sanders could be in line for another monster afternoon.
PLAYERS TO AVOID
Jamison Crowder, NYJ at NE
FanDuel = $6,200
DraftKings = $4,800
I want no part of any of the pass-catchers on the Jets this week. Already down Sam Darnold (mono), they’ve now lost Trevor Siemian to a gruesome ankle injury. That means Luke Falk will be their starting quarterback on the road against the Patriots. Brown and Sanders are in much more favorable spots and are in the same price range as Crowder on both sites, so it’s hard to justify taking a chance here.
Josh Gordon, NE vs. NYJ
FanDuel = $6,000
DraftKings = $5,400
Just when it looked like the Patriots were going to be thin at wide receiver, Gordon was reinstated and they signed Antonio Brown. With Julian Edelman also in the fold, Gordon only has five catches on nine targets through two games. He was on the field for 79.2 percent of their offensive snaps last week, but expect Brown to see more than the 33.3 percent of the snaps that he played in Week 2. Gordon is a great deep threat and the Jets secondary leaves a lot to be desired, but the Patriots might run the ball a lot if they jump out to an early lead, creating fewer opportunities for Gordon. Since he’s not overly cheap on either site, I’m looking elsewhere. ***UPDATE*** With Brown now released, Gordon is actually in a very favorable position to be productive and is no longer someone to avoid.
