Point Guard

Tyler Ulis
FD $3,700 DK $4,200

Devin Booker has already been ruled out for this game and Tyler Ulis was named the starter. For once, the Suns have made it easy on us. They typically encrypt their injury data, but it looks like we can count on Ulis to run the point and play heavy into the 30’s. Ulis has always been a very productive guy when on the floor and it always just comes down to how many minutes we can get him on the floor for. With both Booker and Canaan out, you can only assume he gets over that 30 mark. I personally wouldn’t be surprised to see him get close to 40. He’s trusted by the coaching staff and has played 30+ minutes for long stretches before. The match-up against the Lakers is obviously tremendous as a team that loves to run and gun. They play at the 6th fastest PACE in the league and will do their best to match the PACE the Suns play at. Ulis is a tremendous option in all formats and one of my favorite plays on the entire slate.

Andrew Harrison
FD $5,400 DK $5,000

Even with Mario Chalmers back in action, Andrew Harrison managed to pick up 30 minutes last game. He’s concreted himself as the starting PG with Conley out and can be relied on night in and night out. His price has slowly risen, but you’re still looking for just 25-30 in cash games at $5k. The match-up against Atlanta is also exceptional, as they rank 24th against the position. Harrison isn’t the most exciting guy to watch or roster, but he’s safe, cheap, and in a good match-up. You can do a lot worse. I still prefer Ulis as one of my favorite plays on the entire slate, regardless of price.

Shooting Guard

Wayne Selden
FD $3,800 DK $4,400

Wayne Selden is currently questionable, so we don’t know where we will end up going here. If Selden plays, he’s seeing 30+ minutes at close to minimum-price. If he’s out, Ben McLemore and Mario Chalmers will pick up some big minutes. It would put Chalmers in play for sure. With that being said, I do expect Selden to suit up. He’s been playing extremely well and has been getting more and more comfortable with every start. Assuming he plays, expect 30 minutes and 18+ fantasy points. His upside is well noted and I don’t see many reasons to stay away if he’s cleared to play.

Josh Hart
FD $5,000 DK $4,300

Josh Hart is one of the better plays on this slate. Let’s sort out the mess. Though listed as a SG and starting at PG, he’s playing SF. With Lonzo Ball out, its been Ingram looking to run the offense. Hart has been touching it a ton, but often in scoring situations. I just think there may be a confusion about who this guy is. He’s a scorer and rebounder. There’s a reason he doesn’t do much facilitating. We know the match-up against Phoenix is incredible and it’s even better with Devin Booker missing. Hart is a lock for 30 minutes, 25 fantasy points and cash game value. I’ll personally have 100% exposure in hopes he gets hot and reaches 40 or 50. It’s definitely a real possibility with Ball out of the lineup.

Small Forward

Gerald Green and P.J. Tucker
FD $4,800 – $3,900 DK $5,300 – $4,000

With Trevor Ariza fully expected to remain out tonight, Gerald Green and P.J. Tucker have to be in play. Why? The Nets. If they were facing a solid defense, I could easily pass. Neither are playing exceptionally and are fairly priced. However, we know just how terrible the Nets defense is. The Rockets are going to put up points and both of these guys will see minutes, whether it’s a blowout or not. In tournaments, I’ll have a whole lot of Gerald Green. If he gets hot against Brooklyn, I can only imagine. Tucker is always safer and a solid cash play at near-minimum priced, but you won’t find 30 FP there. If that’s the goal, take a shot on Gerald Green or pay up for one of these next guys. Make sure Ariza is still out and plug either one of these guys in against a bottom 3 NBA defense.

T.J. Warren
FD $6,800 DK $6,700

Fine, these guys aren’t necessarily cheap. They are, however, value in the sense that they are far too cheap for their expected performance. With Devin Booker rules out, give Warren and Jackson 5 minutes each, at least. Jackson could easily move over against Hart and play 35+. Either way, both of them will see huge minutes and the match-up against the Lakers is obviously great (27th against SF). Warren will lead the offense tonight and 15-20 shots wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. He’s the only real guy on the floor that will dictate the ball and he’s around guys who have 0 problem at all passing it up. He’s going to be a guy I have close to 100% of. As for Jackson, he’s a bit more risky and reliant on his scoring ability. With that said, I’ll have cash game exposure because of the match-up and minutes bump. I’m just not as comfortable as I am with any of the other 3 guys above. Small forward is pretty nice and we didn’t even touch on Giannis, LeBron, or KD. Yikes.

Power Forward

Ryan Anderson and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute
FD $4,200 – $4,300 DK $4,700 – $4,200

I know, another Houston Rockets combo. Both Anderson and Mbah a Moute are seeing over 30 minutes and are looking at an ideal match-up. Against power forwards, they rank dead last in the NBA. Dead last. 30th. Minaj a Moute is pretty safe in this style of game, but I can’t lie. I’m still attracted to the upside Ryan Anderson brings. We know the 3 point ball can fall with ease on occasion and it’ll turn into 30+ FP without effort. I’ll personally be all over RyNo for that reason, but see Mbah a Moute getting to 25 fantasy points with ease. In cash games, I’ll go there. It’ll be Quincy Acy manning the 4, who can barely keep up with himself, let alone anyone who can shoot. Both Anderson and Mbah a Moute are worthy of consideration in all formats.

Serge Ibaka
FD $4,800 DK $5,000

I can’t sit here and guarantee Serge Ibaka hits value. I surely could if I could guarantee the minutes, but 22-25 is a real possibility at this point. So is 32-35, though, and at this insane price, I may be willing to take a chance. We know Ibaka is productive when on the floor and will still get close to 20 if on the low-end side of his minutes. He could easily work into the 30’s if part of the down-the-stretch lineup, but that’s up in the air. We just know he’s under $5,000, which is unacceptable for a guy with his skill. Against a Boston team that should keep it extremely close, I expect closer to 35 minutes. Tatum is a solid defender, but more effective on smaller players. Ibaka will have no issue producing when matched up. I will guarantee at least 20 fantasy points.

Center

Tyson Chandler
FD $4,200 DK $4,700

Tyson Chandler saw 27+ minutes in 2 of the last 3 games, so you have to pay attention here. For one, Tyson Chandler is an extremely talented player. Evan at his old age, he’s always putting up numbers when given the opportunity. Especially against an interior like the Lakers that can’t defend anyone. On the season, they rank 21st against the position. Assuming Chandler gets the minutes, he will get over 20 fantasy points with ease. Personally, I like paying up at center tonight. With that being said, Chandler can be played in all formats. The match-up is tremendous and he’s always productive when on the floor.

NBA Fantasy Basketball Schedule Analysis for Week 14

It’s important to know the intricacies of the NBA schedule to gain an advantage over your opponent in a head-to-head fantasy league as starting your best players might not always give you the best chance to win. Here are some moves you might want to consider for your team based on the week ahead.

Teams With The Most Games – 4 Games Each
Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz

There are only ten teams playing four games each this week, which means you might be left with less of a base to build off of on your current squad than normal. If you need help filling out your starting lineup, consider adding the below players who are still available in most leagues.

NBA Fantasy Basketball Schedule Analysis for Week 14

Jarrett Jack, New York Knicks

The Knicks brought in Jack on a non-guaranteed contract and not only has he played well, but he has started 40 games this season. He was expected to split time with rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina but has firmly grabbed a hold of the starting job. Jack is averaging 27 minutes per game this season but has played at least 32 minutes in five of the last seven games. Jack has taken full advantage of the opportunity, averaging 14.8 points, 7.2 assists and 1.8 steals in those five games. Two of his four games this week come against the Nets and Lakers, both of which are in the top-five in the league in pace of play. Jack is still available in 65% of Yahoo! leagues and should be on your radar if you need a point guard.

Wayne Ellington, Miami Heat

The Heat have been one of the teams impacted the most by injuries this season, most recently losing Dion Waiters (ankle) for the season. Ellington has been a crucial part of their rotation as a result, averaging 25 minutes per game overall. He’s played much more than that lately though, logging at least 30 minutes in 12 of his last 13 games. He won’t provide much in the way of rebounds or assists, but he has made the sixth-most three-pointers (121) in the league. If you need a boost from behind the arc, he could be a difference maker with four games on tap for this week. He is still available in 66% of Yahoo! leagues.

JaMychal Green, Memphis Grizzlies

Green has been limited to just 26 games this season, but he is averaging a career-high 10.0 points to go along with 6.7 rebounds and 0.8 three-pointers per game. He’s off to a hot start in January, averaging 12.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.0 block through four games. He could be in line for added minutes this week as the Grizzlies will need his size battling four big frontcourts in the Lakers, Knicks, Kings, and Pelicans. None of the four are particularly strong teams defensively either. Still available in 85% of Yahoo! leagues, Green has upside this week.

Teams With The Fewest Games – 2 Games Each
Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns

With only two teams playing two games each this week, rolling with players on the Mavericks or Suns will put you at a disadvantage. As a result, consider benching the players below who you may normally start most weeks.

NBA Fantasy Basketball Schedule Analysis for Week 14

T.J. Warren, Phoenix Suns

Warren has stepped up to be the Suns’ second-best player this year, averaging career-highs in points (19.7), rebounds (5.5) and assists (1.4) per game. The problem is, he doesn’t provide great defensive stats and is only averaging 0.3 three-pointers per game. His two opponents this week are the Nuggets and the Trail Blazers, two teams in the bottom half of the league in terms of pace of play. With scoring being his main source of value, he just won’t have the volume this week to warrant starting.

Dennis Smith Jr., Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks are lacking depth and young talent, so Smith has been a welcomed addition to their roster. Although he’s only averaging 28 minutes per game, he’s still provided value because of his 28.3% usage rate that ranks inside the top-25 in the league. His percentages have hurt his value though as he’s shooting just 39.4% from the field and 69.3% from the charity stripe. Ironically, the Mavericks also play the Nuggets and Trail Blazers this week, so it might be best to keep Smith on your bench.

Harrison Barnes, Dallas Mavericks

Barnes has been the most productive player on the Mavericks, averaging 18.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 three-pointers per game. His field goal percentage is down this season at only 45.5%, but he’s been excellent from the charity stripe, shooting 82.8%. He doesn’t provide many steals or blocks, so it’s going to be tough to get enough value from him with such a limited schedule this week. It might be wise to look elsewhere ar forward this week.

Russell Westbrook, OKC at BKN
FanDuel = $11,500
DraftKings = $12,000

Westbrook is close to averaging a triple-double again as he enters Thursday averaging 22.5 points, 9.3 rebounds and 9.9 assists per game. He’s been even better over the Thunder’s three-game winning streak, averaging 23.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 12.6 assists. His 33.3% usage rate is sixth-best in the NBA, so he could be in for a huge performance Thursday considering the Nets play at the third-fastest pace (104.9) in the league. With so little talent on the Thunder bench, Westbrook is going to continue to dominate in DFS.

Tomas Satoransky, WAS at PHO
FanDuel = $4,700
DraftKings = $4,100

Satoransky got off to a hot start with John Wall (knee) sidelined but has struggled to average only 7.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists over his last two games. The good news is that he is still playing more minutes than the fill-in starter Tim Frazier, so the opportunities are there. The Suns are a terrible defensive team and they play at the second-fastest pace (105.3) in the league, leaving their opponents with great upside. Even with his difficulties of late, this could be a bounce-back performance for Satoransky Thursday.

SHOOTING GUARDS

James Harden, HOU at UTA

DraftKings = $11,000

There was some fear that Harden would see a decrease in production with the return of Chris Paul, but nothing seems to be able to slow him down. In seven games since Paul’s return, Harden is averaging 32.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 8.6 assists, 1.9 steals and 4.9 three-pointers per game. Paul has clearly taken a back seat offensively, so expect Harden to continue to stuff the stat sheet. He rocked the Jazz for 56 points earlier this season, so pay up for Harden again Thursday.

Troy Daniels, PHO vs. WAS
FanDuel = $3,700
DraftKings = $4,100

The Suns are going to be without Devin Booker (groin) for two-to-three weeks, leaving a huge offensive void on their team. Not only was he their best scorer, but he took a ton of shots as he’s averaged 18.8 shot attempts per game. It’s going to take a collective effort to replace him and Daniels may be one of those players who gets a boost. He doesn’t get much playing time, but he is averaging 12.8 points and 3.6 three-pointers in the five games where he has played at least 20 minutes this year. Considering he won’t cost you much, he might be worth the risk in tournament play.

SMALL FORWARDS

Speaking of guys trying to make up for Booker’s absence, Warren will likely now be counted on to lead the team in scoring. He’s already averaging 18.4 points per game with a 24.8% usage rate, both second-best on the team behind Booker. Warren has scored at least 25 points in a game six times this season, showing he can have excellent upside. With so little talent around him, Warren should get plenty of opportunities to be a valuable part of your entry Thursday.

Brandon Ingram, LAL at PHI
FanDuel = $6,800
DraftKings = $6,400

Ingram is shaping up to be an offensive force for the Lakers this season and is averaging 19.1 points over his last nine games. He’s averaging five more shot attempts per game this season, so expect this to be a trend that continues throughout the rest of the year. This is an excellent matchup Thursday as both the Lakers and the Sixers are in the top-four in the NBA in terms of pace of play. It suited Ingram well when these teams faced off earlier this season as he finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Get him back in your lineup for this game.

POWER FORWARDS

NBA Daily Fantasy Basketball Lineup Picks

Ben Simmons, PHI vs. LAL
FanDuel = $10,500
DraftKings = $9,900

The Wizards raised some eyebrows last week when they went to Hack-a-Ben, putting Simmons on the free-throw a whopping 29 times. Simmons really struggled, making only 15 attempts and showing what looked to be a major weakness in his game. He’s rebounded from that nicely, making 6-of-8 free-throws over three games since. He hasn’t been tested much, but it’s something to keep an eye one. His ability to provide excellent all-around counting stats makes him a great DFS option on most nights, but tonight is especially promising considering the pace at which both of these teams play. Of note, Simmons is only available at power forward on FanDuel. He is available at point guard and small forward on DraftKings.

Markieff Morris, WAS at PHO
FanDuel = $4,800
DraftKings = $4,700

Morris has struggled for most of this season but showed he still has upside when he scored 23 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks Friday against the Detroit Pistons. Using the revenge game angle can be tricky, but Morris’ tenure as a member of the Suns did not end well. He has played against them three times since, averaging 10.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks in those games. With a limited slate and so few viable cheap options at power forward, you may want to consider Morris.

CENTERS

Joel Embiid, PHI vs. LAL

DraftKings = $10,100

Thursday brings Embiid’s second game against the Lakers this season. He provided a memorable performance in their first meeting, scoring 46 points to go along with 15 rebounds, seven assists, and seven blocks. The Lakers struggle to defend the center position and really don’t have anyone capable of slowing down Embiid. It’s going to cost you a lot, but Embiid should be worth the price Thursday.

Jarrett Allen, BKN vs. OKC
FanDuel = $4,000
DraftKings = $3,400

The Thunder certainly lack depth, but the one thing they do have is an outstanding center in Steven Adams. Center might be the weakest position on the Nets roster, but someone is going to have to battle with Adams. Allen is starting to show promise off the Nets bench, averaging 9.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks over his last three games. That’s certainly nothing to write home about, but he may see an uptick in production if he gets a few extra minutes Thursday. If you want to take a risk on a very cheap center, Allen is someone to think about.

POINT GUARDS

Kyrie Irving, BOS vs. GS
FanDuel = $8,300
DraftKings = $8,100

Irving has actually seen his averages decrease almost across the board this season, except for an improvement in steals (1.9 per game). The main culprit has been his playing time as he is only averaging 31 minutes per game after playing 35 minutes per game last season. The Celtics are going to need big minutes from him to keep pace with the Warriors and his 29.7% usage rate (tied for 12th best in the NBA) suggests he should be up for the task.

Tyler Ulis, PHO vs. HOU
FanDuel = $4,000
DraftKings = $4,200

Ulis has started the past two games over Mike James, playing at least 26 minutes in both contests. While he only scored a total of four points, he did take 12 total shots, so there is an opportunity for better production. He was able to average 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals over those starts, so he could provide value at this price if his shot is falling. Considering the limited amount of games on the schedule tonight and the Rockets uptempo offense, Ulis might be worth the risk at this price.

SHOOTING GUARDS

James Harden, HOU at PHO

DraftKings = $12,700

Harden has been out of this world of late as he is averaging 34.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 11.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 4.5 three-pointers over his last four games. He has been one of the safest DFS plays on most nights, even considering his hefty price tag. Chris Paul is expected to play in his first game this season Thursday, but he is only expected to play around 20 minutes. While Paul’s return may reduce Harden’s value down the road, it shouldn’t tonight.

Eric Gordon, HOU at PHO
FanDuel = $6,100
DraftKings = $6,200

Gordon is in the midst of one of the best seasons of his career as he is averaging 22.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.7 three-pointers per game. His value is also expected to take a hit with the return of Paul, but again it should only be a minimal impact with Paul on a minutes limit Thursday. Gordon hasn’t really seen a huge jump in playing time even when Paul was out though as he is averaging 33 minutes per game this season compared to 31 minutes per game last year. The Suns are one of the worst defensive teams in the league, so roll with Gordon Thursday.

SMALL FORWARDS

Kevin Durant, GS at BOS
FanDuel = $10,500
DraftKings = $9,700

Durant has been a model of consistency as he has scored at least 20 points in all but one game this season. Not only is he averaging 7.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists as well, but he is averaging a career-high 2.2 blocks per game. They need his defense when they go small and move Draymond Green to center, so don’t be surprised if he continues to block shots at close to that rate. The Celtics are one of the best defensive teams in the league but don’t expect them to be able to slow Durant down Thursday.

Warren has stepped up his game of late as he is averaging 26.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 three-pointers over his last three games. The key for Warren has been increased opportunities in the offense as he is averaging a career-high 15.5 shot attempts per game. The Rockets score a ton and play at a fast pace, which could mean another great stat line from Warren Thursday. He could provide tremendous value at this price.

POWER FORWARDS

Marquese Chriss, PHO vs. HOU
FanDuel = $4,500
DraftKings = $4,000

With so many elite DFS options available in only a two-game slate, it’s important to find a few dirt cheap options that will then allow you to stack your lineup with studs. Power forward presents that cost-saving position Thursday. Chriss has played at least 25 minutes in three of the last four games as he is starting to see his role expand for the Suns. His ability to both defend and hit three’s could prove very valuable against a Rockets team that likes to use small lineups. Take a risk on Chriss in tournament play.

Tarik Black, HOU at PHO
FanDuel = $3,300
DraftKings = $3,500

As we continue to look for ways to save money while squeezing out some value, we come to Black. Nene Hilario is considered doubtful to play in this game with a foot injury, which will open up minutes for Black. Nene missed the Rockets last game, which enabled Black to record 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in 18 minutes. The Suns are horrible defensively, making Black your other top cheap option at power forward for the evening.

CENTERS

Clint Capela, HOU at PHO
FanDuel = $7,400
DraftKings = $7,200

Capela has posted a double-double in three of his last four games and has grabbed at least 11 rebounds in seven of his last nine games. With power forward Ryan Anderson spending most of his time around the three-point line, there are going to be plenty of chances for Capela to rack up rebounds. Don’t be surprised if he is the most productive center in DFS when the evening is all said and done.

Alex Len, PHO vs. HOU
FanDuel = $4,800
DraftKings = $4,400

Suns starting center Tyson Chandler is questionable heading into this game with an illness. If he were to miss the game, Len would take over the starting duties. Even if Chandler is able to play, he may see limited minutes. Despite only making two starts and averaging 23 minutes per game this season, Len is still averaging 8.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game. If you need to save money at center, Len is an option in tournament play. If Chandler does miss the game, he could provide significant value.
